Initial Consultation
Dr. Edwards evaluates your or your child's teeth, bite, jaw and alignment in the very first consultation.
He will list and explain all treatment options - if he feels treatment is really necessary (often he recommends no treatment at all or simply asks you to return in a few months so that he can monitor the growth pattern of your teeth). He is very conservative and often feels it is best to wait until a child’s permanent teeth have erupted before beginning treatment.
Nevertheless, there are many cases where early treatment can be very beneficial during the child's growth stage. Dr. Edwards will explain all of this to you so that you remain fully informed and in control of your treatment choices. Additionally, our treatment coordinator will be available to discuss the various payment options that are open to you.
If you decide to begin treatment, you can often get some of your braces put on there and then. Bring any current x-rays with you to the consultation.
Treatment Lengths and Office Visits
Length of treatment varies greatly depending on the complexity of each individual case. Overall treatment time is determined largely by patient cooperation so that, if you miss many appointments, your treatment will obviously be longer. Not wearing rubber bands (if required) will also increase length of treatment. Patients typically are scheduled to come once a month to see Dr. Edwards and then come back every 3 months for retainer checks after treatment.
Financing & Insurance
Dr. Edwards never wants finances to be an obstruction to dental health. So, we offer a number of payment options. Each will be explained to you at the initial exam. In addition, many insurance companies offer excellent orthodontic coverage. Check your specific plan or call us and we will check for you before your consultation.
